Financial Foundations for Life: The Kingsview Report (KR9)
Hosted by Armando Vacca
Guest: Rev. Brian Warren

Years back, when I had more hair and greater definition around the chin, when I only listened to secular music, I was reminded of the lyrics of a Billy Joel song, “Scenes from an Italian Restaurant” The song lyrics went:

“They started to fight when the
Money got tight
And they just didn't count on
The tears. "

Today’s segment is focusing on the attack on marriage due to lack of money, lack of time, and sadly, lack of love. Recession and Divorce seem to go hand in hand.

TGIF, it’s Friday evening, the weekend’s here and Gerry and Linda have finished a light supper at a fast food restaurant next to the mall. Walking through the mall to grab a mochachino latte, they pass a major department store. In the window, Gerry sees a business suit that triggers the following conversation, “Honey, I need that suit for my big presentation next week”. Linda responds: “I’m not sure that there’s room for a $400 charge left on our credit card”. He was a little perplexed at her statement and after a little prodding by her husband about their credit situation, she explained that she had to get a dress for Mother’s Day and that she had run out of make-up. Discussion Question: Do you think he got the suit? - Why or why not?

Howdy Neighbour

“We make our friends; we make our enemies; but God makes our next-door neighbour.” G.K Chesterton. How well do we know our neighbours? We live, increasingly it seems, in communities where we hardly know our neighbours. Is it just me or does it seem our hurried lives makes us less friendly, or are we afraid to get involved in the lives of people around us?  What qualities do you look for in a good friend or neighbour?

Passion in the Workplace

“Hey Pauly, I think there’s still something in the basement”. Rocky Balboa- Rocky VIThe 1995 academy award-winning Best Picture was bloody one. The Scotsfought for the freedom of Scotland against the encroaching power of the English crown. “Braveheart’s” lead warrior (William Wallace) was gripped by a passion (to right the wrong!) to set his countrymen free. How is a passion born in a person? When you think of a person of passion who comes to mind?

“Joy in one's heart and some laughter on one's lips is a sign that the person down deep has a pretty good grasp of life.” Hugh Sidey Are you a positive contributor, or a supernatural leader at work? A Christian that’s competent, compassionate and creative in the workplace?  Don’t you love it, when, on your way to work you see a fellow commuter moving with the tunes? Or when you hear your spouse or teenaged kid singing in the shower? Or how about when you’re standing in a checkout line and someone behind you in the checkout line is whistling a happy tune? Hey, why do we enjoy these things, these moments? What’s the likely reason for these folks having a song?

Reverse The Curse - Give!
Hosted By Armando Vacca
Guest: Slobodan Krstevski

A story in the book “From the Curse of Debt to Financial Freedom”:
“I once heard a story of a man who was sitting in a church service with his son. After the service, he complained about the sermon and the songs. He expressed all kinds of negative thoughts about the service, complaining that he didn’t receive anything from it. Finally his son said, “Dad, what do you expect for a quarter?” So because this man only gave a little offering, he received very little from the service.

Stop the Curse of Debt
Hosted by Armando Vacca
Guest: Slobodan Krstevski

In one of the examples, Slobodan, you cite the case of David and Joanne (not their real names). Married 7 years and have 3 girls. Joanne, like many wives, tends to the finances of her family. They purchased a condo with a high ratio debt (mortgage with little or no down payment, maybe even with a teaser variable rate interest) and have two vehicles (both on loans). Every Sunday after church, they would go to a restaurant for lunch. Not only that, but each and every year they would go on a (major) vacation to the States. Whenever Joanne went shopping, she would use her credit card to purchase things like makeup, clothing and items she felt they needed in their home. Then came time to replace one of their cars. When they went to the dealership, they could not but another car, because they were so weighed down by their debts. Hey Slobodan, who’s riding the bike?

Incredible Power - When the Super Gets On Your Natural!
Hosted By Armando Vacca
Guest: Brian Warren

Warm up: Some years ago in life magazine, there appeared a picture of devastation wrought by a Midwestern tornado. In the center of the photo was a telephone pole with and straw driven through it. It seemed incredible- unbelievable. How could a weak and fragile straw be thrust through a rugged, seasoned telephone pole? The answer: The straw, which has no power of its own, had been super empowered totally by the awesome force of the tornado. Mother Theresa, now Blessed Theresa of Calcutta, one of God's straws in this world, has penetrated the lives of countless thousands of people.
